Six principles for working effectively with landowners to advance bird conservation

چکیده
Abstract Private land management is an essential component of bird conservation. How private landowners manage their farms, rangelands, forests, and yards, influences the resources hazards birds encounter, with associated impacts on abundance. We describe 6 principles, based recent research, that conservation practitioners should incorporate into efforts landowners: (1) use social natural science stakeholder input to decide how where work; (2) tailor strategies local ecological conditions; (3) build relationships support landowner interests; (4) reduce barriers participation; (5) offer a menu options behavior; (6) promote persistence behavior. These principles emphasize importance recognizing considerations landowners, customizing interventions conditions, making as easy implement possible. Developing along diverse interventions, takes time effort but improve both uptake practices lands.

Training principles to advance expertise
INTRODUCTION There are three forms of task engagement that are the basis of successful training for expertise—acquisition, retention, and transfer—and three corresponding goals of training—efficiency, durability, and generalizability. This paper reviews training conditions that facilitate acquisition, enhance retention, and promote transfer to contexts not encountered during training. Diligent ...
متن کاملWorking Effectively with Legacy Code
Over the past fifteen years, much has been written about object oriented design and team development processes. The unfortunate thing is that much design and process advice assumes that your project is a blank page. In actuality, greenfield projects are noticably rare. Most projects carry some amount of legacy code. In many new development efforts, the amount of legacy code will overwhelm the a...
متن کاملConservation of Endangered Species: Can Incentives Work for Private Landowners?
It has been argued that the traditional regulatory approach of the Endangered Species Act, based on land-use restrictions, has failed to protect endangered species on private land. In response, there has been a call for the use of incentives to complement this regulatory approach. This paper examines the potential of incentives programs to elicit conservationoriented management choices from lan...
متن کاملLandowners’ Responses to an Endangered Species Act Listing and Implications for Encouraging Conservation
Private landowners manage many rare species’ habitats, yet research on their responses to species conservation legislation is scarce. To address this need, we examined private landowners’ responses to the listing of the Preble’s meadow jumping mouse (Zapus hudsonius preblei) as threatened under the U.S. Endangered Species Act (ESA). We mailed a questionnaire designed to measure these responses ...
متن کاملThe “Crex Crex” Lament: Estimating Landowners Willingness to Pay for Corncrake Conservation on Irish Farmland
This paper considers farmers willingness to pay (WTP) to conserve an endangered Irish farmland bird, the Corncrake (Crex crex). An Irish National Farm Survey (NFS) is used to produce individual farm-level WTP estimates for the year 2006. These figures are then aggregated to obtain a total value figure for the farming community of Corncrake conservation in Ireland. We focus on the willingness to...
